Joel
Foley - Chairman of Wycombe and Beaconsfield Conservative Future
Joel Foley
founded Wycombe and Beaconsfield Conservative Future in 2007 after
several years as an active member of the Newcastle and Keele
Conservative Future Branch.
In 2006 Joel was
the candidate for the Conservative Party for the ward of Keele in the
local elections to the Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council. With the
support to the Conservative Future Branch members, Joel was able to run
a professional and positive campaign. Running against the Liberal
Democrat Leader on the council was never going to be easy task and after
losing by just 86 votes, Joel decided to leave Staffordshire for his
home town of High Wycombe to pursue development of a Conservative Future
branch.
Joel Writes: "I
grew up in Wooburn Green and lived at home with my mother and father,
and older sister Laura. I attended a Christian primary school and went
on to Sir William Borlase’s Grammar School, where I studied until I left
for Keele University, Staffordshire, at 18."
"Whilst at my
primary school I became involved in a sports club in the next village,
‘Bourne End Junior Sports Club’ (BEJSC). I became involved in the
swimming section, training up to four times a week and competing in
regional galas. I remained in this section until I was 18. As a more
senior member of the swimming section, I helped to coach the juniors,
assisting them in gaining confidence in water for the first time. I also
participated in other sections, including the ‘rock climbing’ division.
I travelled with the club on a number of occasions for ‘outdoor pursuits
weekends’ in Wales, these trips were available for members of all
sections. I became involved in the administrative side of the club when
I was 15, representing the members of the climbing and swimming sections
on the Junior Committee. When I was 17 I was elected Chairman of the
committee, and became responsible for organising events ranging from
fund-raising to social. I also had to represent the club to the
community. My achievements within the community were recognised when I
was honoured with a special award for ‘contribution to community
service’.
Since graduating from Keele in the
summer of 2005 with a Upper Second class honours degree in Environmental
Politics, Joel has spent time working in Thailand as a management
consultant, and in America as a swimming coach. Joel now works for
LeasePlan UK in Slough, which is the world's largest vehicle management
and leasing provider.
